Installing FOSSology on Debain

Packages for deb based distributions are available from different sources, depending on release. Consult the appropriate instructions below for the line to add to your /etc/apt/sources.list file.

After you apt-get install, make sure you apt-cache show fossology and read the package description, which will tell you how to run it. You can also look at the doc files in /usr/share/doc/fossology*

Debian lenny (currently stable)

FOSSology 1.4.0 debs, produced by the FOSSology team. These debs have not yet been submitted to debian upstream. Older versions of FOSSology are available from the debian and ubuntu repositories. To use the FOSSology produced debs add the line below to your /etc/apt/source.list file.

deb http://fossology.org/debian/1.4.0/lenny ./

Backports of fossology versions are available for lenny via http://backports.org. Instructions on how to use the backports.org apt repository are available here. Packages must first enter the current testing release (currently squeeze) before they can be uploaded to backports.org. As mentioned above, this means that the latest fossology version may not yet be available due to being too new or buggy. In that case if you want the latest possible version, the fossology project temporarily provides builds for testing purposes (see Debian lenny above). NOTE You are welcome to use these packages, but we encourage you to use backports.org when the official FOSSology packages are available.

Debian sid (unstable)

The latest version of fossology is not available in sid. Use the fossology debs.

Debian squeeze (currently testing)
